Why a shisha manufacturer buys flue-cured Virginia

Flue-cured Virginia is a bright, sugar-rich leaf, and shisha producers that use it do so as a blend component alongside other leaf types. How much of it goes into a blend, and with which other leaf, is the manufacturer's recipe. We do not advise on blends or on finished-product formulation. What we can supply is leaf with a documented specification, so the lot you receive matches the lot you approved.

Processing forms shisha manufacturers ask about

Shisha production starts from leaf that has already been separated from the midrib, so most enquiries are for stemmed or threshed material. The products page describes all eight forms. The ones raised most often are:

• Threshed lamina strips, which have the midrib removed and are ready for the manufacturer's own cutting line.
• Machine-stemmed and hand-stemmed leaf, for plants that prefer to process leaf closer to its natural form.
• Whole leaf and unstemmed leaf, for factories with their own threshing line.

Specifications to settle before ordering

The catalogue lists each grade with its nicotine, reducing sugar, colour and packing, and a negotiable price per kilogram. For shisha production, buyers typically confirm these points in writing before an order:

• Grade and colour class, for consistency between lots.
• Nicotine and reducing sugar ranges, and moisture at loading.
• Processing form: whole leaf, stemmed, or threshed strips.
• Packing: C48 cartons of 140 to 200 kg net, or jute bags of about 50 kg for loose leaf.
• Laboratory analysis for each lot, and pesticide residue analysis where you specify it.

Representative samples with laboratory results can be sent once your company has been verified, so you can assess a lot before committing to a container.

How a purchase works

We sell FOB from an agreed named port in Pakistan, normally Karachi or Port Qasim. Minimum order is one full container load, about 15 to 20 metric tonnes depending on the form. Payment is 50 percent in advance and 50 percent against the FOB shipment, and delivery is typically 30 to 45 days to the buyer's port. A commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and phytosanitary certificate come with every container, together with the laboratory analysis report for each lot.

Import rules are the buyer's responsibility

Each country has its own rules for importing raw tobacco leaf, and separate rules for manufacturing, flavouring, packing, labelling and selling shisha tobacco. Those rules differ between countries and change from time to time, and they are not something we can advise on. Please confirm them with your customs broker, importer or legal adviser before ordering. We will supply the documents and lot data they ask for.
