CORESTA, the Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco, publishes the recommended methods that laboratories use to measure tobacco parameters such as nicotine and reducing sugars. Referencing a CORESTA method on a specification tells the buyer how a value was measured, which makes results comparable between laboratories and origins.
Lamina is the leaf blade either side of the midrib and is the part used in a blend. The midrib is the central rib running the length of the leaf. Stemming removes the midrib by hand or machine; threshing mechanically separates lamina from stem to produce threshed lamina strips.
